Did you know that many freight vehicles on our roads are not fully loaded, or even driving around completely empty? That's wasted space that could be used by businesses and private individuals who need to send goods last-minute but lack the capacity to do it themselves. It's inefficient and absolutely not good for the environment.

The challenge

Inspired to do things differently, Droppr, a Belgian shipping platform focused on sustainable goods delivery, dreamed of a digital platform to easily share (available) cargo space and combat unnecessary traffic.

We made that dream a reality and built a user-friendly application with a smart algorithm and various functionalities, perfectly tailored to Droppr and its users.

For Droppr, we developed a fully custom digital solution: a mobile-friendly web application for both senders and transporters.

Via the application, companies and individuals can easily register their parcels. Carriers with available space in their truck can then pick up and transport them.

Sounds great! But how do we ensure this happens smoothly and efficiently?

The solution

There’s a lot involved. A whole lot. Because how do you match the right transporter with the right parcel? And what happens when a pickup fails?

Building a reliable algorithm requires massive technical know-how. It’s far more ingenious than most people think. You have to consider countless factors: the available cargo space, the transporters’ routes, the days parcels can be picked up and delivered… just to name a few.


As true matchmakers, we built an algorithm that seamlessly connects each parcel with the ideal transporter, ensuring a smooth and efficient delivery.

Then there are the happy and unhappy flows. The app needs to provide the right information when everything goes according to plan. But also when something goes wrong. What if a pickup doesn’t work out? What if the delivery address doesn’t exist? And what happens once the transporter drops off the parcel? Complex, yes. But we built all the answers right in.

In that last scenario, for instance, a Proof of Delivery (PoD) must be created. Not that simple. The PoD has to meet legal requirements and allow the receiver to sign. On top of that, an audit trail must precisely track the package's location and who performs which action at what time. Only then can the system remain fully airtight and trustworthy. Both in the good and not-so-ideal scenarios.

And the results are impressive

Thanks to the smart matching algorithm, parcels are linked to transporters based on timing, size, and any special requirements like cooling, fragility, hazardous materials, you name it. But we didn’t stop there…

  • We integrated complex price configurations for both senders and transporters, factoring in everything from distance calculations to real-time roadblocks via external APIs. This way, senders instantly know what they’ll pay, and drivers know exactly what they’ll earn.
  • Payments? Smooth and secure thanks to a Stripe integration. And that’s not all, we also built invoicing and automated billing flows that take care of everything every two weeks.
  • Time is money. That’s why we continuously think about ways to improve the user experience and speed up the shipping process. With a seamless Google Maps integration, address suggestions appear with a single click, and frequently used addresses are saved for later. Larger transporters? They can request bulk imports through the app to save even more time.

Close collaboration and fast development

Everything starts with a thorough analysis. We identify the app’s target users, map out the user flow, set priorities for development phases, and define the technical architecture.

A mission-critical application like this leaves zero room for error. If the app or system doesn’t function properly, the entire logistics chain halts.

That’s why we focused heavily on aligning with Droppr’s needs and expectations in detail. Features were continuously checked and double-checked through User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to guarantee smooth operation and ensure the product met every requirement.

During development, we worked in tight feedback loops to process input quickly and efficiently. And when feedback was lighter, we used that time to move even faster, helping us meet the tight deadline with ease. Pretty great, right?

And after that? Our work doesn’t stop at launch. Even once the app is fully up and running, we keep things on track and provide complete support to Droppr.
